On October 21, 2021, the National Exhibition of Scientific and Technological Achievements of the 13th Five-Year Plan was held at the Beijing Exhibition Hall, showcasing in a concentrated manner the major scientific and technological achievements made since the 13th Five-Year Plan period as we have deeply implemented the innovation-driven development strategy and built an innovative nation. Hubei Shendi Agricultural Science and Trade Co., Ltd., as one of the demonstration units for the commercialization of scientific and technological achievements, was invited to participate in this exhibition. At the event, the company presented to national leaders, experts, and the general public its newly developed products resulting from scientific and technological innovation in the agricultural sector: eggshell collagen peptides, eggshell-based fruit and vegetable cleanser, and lysozyme mouthwash.

According to the report, the exhibition is themed “Driving Development through Innovation and Striving to Become a Science and Technology Powerhouse,” fully demonstrating the Party’s comprehensive leadership over scientific and technological work and reflecting the major strategic decisions and remarkable achievements made by the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core in the field of scientific and technological innovation.

The exhibition is divided into 12 thematic zones, including major special projects and regional innovation, with a total of 1,740 exhibits. The exhibition focuses on the forefront of global science and technology, the main battlefields of the economy, major national needs, and people’s health and well-being. It highlights a number of landmark scientific and technological achievements made by China during the 13th Five-Year Plan period.

On the 26th, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President of the People's Republic of China, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission; Li Keqiang, Li Zhanshu, Wang Yang, Wang Huning, Zhao Leji, and Han Zheng, members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee; and Wang Qishan, Vice President of the People's Republic of China, each visited the exhibition.

General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized: “We must firmly have confidence in innovation, seize the opportunities for innovation, and accelerate the achievement of high-level scientific and technological self-reliance and self-strengthening.” Promoting agricultural science and technology self-reliance and accelerating the modernization of agriculture and rural areas are also major themes of this exhibition. Therefore, “ensuring national food security and keeping the Chinese people’s food supply firmly in our own hands” has been deeply etched in everyone’s minds.

Hubei Shendi Agricultural Science and Trade Co., Ltd., as a company that responds to General Secretary Xi’s core idea of “promoting self-reliance and strength in agricultural science and technology,” undertook the project “Pilot Testing and Demonstration of the Industrialization of High-Value, Functional New Egg Products” during the 13th Five-Year Plan period.

During the project, the company demonstrated courage in innovation and actively engaged in R&D, developing high-value, functional, and health-oriented products from poultry eggs. As a result, it has become the only enterprise in the industry to enter the greater health sector. Recognized by the Party Central Committee for its contributions to scientific and technological innovation, the achievements we’ve showcased are also leading the way in the development of healthy poultry egg-based foods.

First, eggshell membrane collagen peptides are produced by isolating and extracting the shell membrane from eggshells, followed by enzymatic hydrolysis. This natural product contains a complex of nutrients—including collagen, chondroitin sulfate, glucosamine, hyaluronic acid, and small-molecule peptides—that help maintain the health of cartilage and connective tissues. Through the synergistic action of these multiple nutritional components, it provides comprehensive supplementation of nutrients essential for bone and joint health, thereby promoting effective care for joint health. The successful implementation of this technology not only represents a significant breakthrough in addressing the issues of waste disposal and environmental pollution associated with eggshell resources but also achieves the goal of transforming waste into valuable resources at a higher value-added level. It elevates China’s technological capabilities in egg product development and biological utilization, narrowing the gap between China and developed countries in terms of egg-processing technology levels.

II. Eggshell Fruit and Vegetable Cleaner—produced through 21 meticulous processing steps, this product employs advanced technologies including high-frequency pyrolysis (L-CA activation technology and H-CA activation technology), micro- and nano-grinding, and depolymerization treatment to create CA nano-active microcrystals. These crystals exhibit exceptionally strong adsorption, complexation, and degradation capabilities. They tightly bind to pathogens and effectively break down the molecular structures of harmful substances, thereby removing bacteria, pesticide residues, fruit waxes, insect eggs, heavy metals, artificial colors, and other contaminants from the surfaces of fruits and vegetables. This technology was successfully commercialized during the 13th Five-Year Plan period and has been granted a national invention patent. Moreover, in 2020, testing conducted by the Wuhan Institute of Virology confirmed that this product can eliminate 99.99% of SARS-CoV-2 viruses from food surfaces.

3. Lysozyme mouthwash—formulated with lysozyme extracted from natural egg whites and developed through scientific formulation—is designed to regulate the balance of oral microbiota, protect beneficial bacteria, eliminate harmful bacteria, and safeguard oral health.

This Innovation and Technology Achievement Exhibition showcased to the public a series of major breakthroughs China has made during the 13th Five-Year Plan period in fields such as basic and cutting-edge science, strategic high-tech, and areas related to people’s livelihoods.
