Shendi Group, the leading association unit of the poultry industry in Hubei Province, visited Shanxi to exchange and learn about the layer chicken industry.

To strengthen exchanges among the layer chicken industry, learn from and draw on the outstanding experiences in Shanxi Province’s layer chicken industry development, and enhance the high-quality development level of Hubei Province’s poultry industry, from November 6 to November 10, 2023, Yang Yan, President of the Hubei Poultry Association and Chairman of Shendi Group, Researcher Du Jinping from the Hubei Academy of Agricultural Sciences—a member of the Association’s expert panel—as well as more than 20 representatives including some vice-presidents and standing directors of the Association, traveled to Shanxi to exchange ideas and learn about innovative developments in the poultry industry chain.

At the Poultry Division of the Shanxi Province Animal Husbandry Association, the two sides held a symposium and exchange. The Poultry Division of the Shanxi Province Animal Husbandry Association provided a detailed overview of the current status of the poultry industry in Shanxi Province. Both sides exchanged experiences and lessons learned from the development of the poultry industries in Shanxi and Hubei provinces, and discussed ideas on innovative development and cooperative exchanges within the poultry industry. (Shanxi’s live poultry inventory stands at 80 million birds, while Hubei’s stands at 150 million birds.)

At Shanxi Yuchen Biotechnology Engineering Co., Ltd., the two sides engaged in an in-depth exchange on the R&D, production, and sales of premixes; feed quality testing; layer chicken farming; organic fertilizer production and value-chain extension; and project innovation. Yuchen Company is a vice-president unit of the Shanxi Province Animal Husbandry Association and has four subsidiaries under its umbrella, with a laying hen flock of 500,000 birds.

At Shanxi Pingyao Guqing Poultry Co., Ltd., the association’s inspection team conducted a detailed discussion and exchange on topics including cost control and efficiency enhancement, brand premium, food processing, and organic fertilizer production processes. The company is a prime example of a circular economy industrial chain that integrates breeding of parent stock, chick hatching, feed production, raising egg (and meat) chickens, slaughtering, food processing, and organic fertilizer production.

At Shanxi Jinxing Group—the “National Key Leading Enterprise in Agricultural Industrialization” specializing in the “Sanhuang Chicken”全产业链— the delegation visited Jinxing Animal Husbandry and Jinxing Food, two of its subsidiaries. The group members showed great interest in touring the distinctive “chicken” culture corridor and the ingeniously designed cultural park. They listened attentively to captivating stories about the brand’s legendary origins and learned about the unique production processes. Additionally, they engaged in discussions with senior executives from Jinxing Group on topics such as cultural development, industry growth prospects, and common challenges faced by enterprises, exchanging ideas on pathways for high-quality industrial development.

At the Sanbai Wan egg-laying hen farm in Fuyukou, Shanxi Jinlong Group, the inspection team gained a detailed understanding of Jinlong Company’s basic information and development philosophy. They also engaged in thorough discussions and exchanges on topics including egg-laying hen farming, branded egg production and sales, organic fertilizer production processes, manufacturing techniques, and corporate culture development. Shanxi Jinlong Group is a vertically integrated livestock enterprise that encompasses egg-laying hen farming, feed production and sales, poultry product processing, and organic fertilizer production. It is a key national leading enterprise in agricultural industrialization and a high-tech enterprise in Shanxi Province, with a current flock size of 12 million birds (the largest in Shanxi, third-largest in China, and sixth-largest in Asia).

In addition to the inspection tour, the association’s delegation also had an up-close experience of the profound “Jinshang Culture,” gaining a deep understanding and learning about the Jinshang spirit—“honesty and trustworthiness, pioneering and enterprising spirit, mutual support and cooperation, pragmatic management, and dedication to benefiting society and the people.” They particularly appreciated the entrepreneurial spirit of daring to take risks and forge ahead, as well as the “Dongzhang System,” which embodies the intergenerational handover and inheritance of business leadership.

This inspection and exchange visit has deepened our understanding of corporate culture and the importance of extending and strengthening industrial chains. We have profoundly realized that corporate culture is a vital source of productivity, and that extending and supplementing industrial chains is a viable strategy for hedging against industry risks. As a national key leading enterprise in agricultural industrialization and the president unit of the Hubei Province Poultry Association, Shendi Group—having devoted 19 years to green laying hen farming and egg processing—has become a large-scale enterprise that has achieved full-chain development in the egg industry. We will carefully learn from Shanxi’s outstanding initiatives in poultry industry development, further liberate our thinking, innovate our approaches, and truly transform the outcomes of this study tour into driving forces for the sustainable development of our own enterprise and for promoting high-quality development of our province’s poultry industry.
