On April 7, Shendi Company received more good news: The National Technical Research Center for Egg Processing Technology, in collaboration with Academician Li Defa and his team, including Professors Qiao Shiyan and He Pingli, has developed a new type of egg yolk antibody (IgY) after six years of research. This antibody has been granted a national invention patent (Patent No.: ZL 201810974583.6), which can be used to treat and prevent porcine diarrhea. This breakthrough offers a new approach as an alternative to antibiotics.

  On April 7, Shendi Company received more good news: The National Technical Research Center for Egg Processing Technology, in collaboration with Academician Li Defa and his team—including Professors Qiao Shiyan and He Pingli—has developed a new type of egg yolk antibody (IgY) after six years of research. This innovative antibody has been granted a national invention patent (Patent No.: ZL 201810974583.6), which can be used to treat and prevent porcine diarrhea. This breakthrough offers a new approach as an alternative to antibiotics.

  “A Type of Egg Yolk Antibody Against Porcine Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli and Its Preparation Method.” This patent develops a novel technique for preparing egg yolk antibodies by immunizing laying hens with a trivalent enterotoxin fusion protein (LTB protein—STa protein—STb protein) and K88 natural fimbriae as immunogens. The resulting egg yolk antibodies exhibit high titer, strong antibacterial activity, and broad-spectrum efficacy, providing excellent protection against multiple serotypes of Escherichia coli. This approach overcomes the limitation of conventional preparation methods, which suffer from highly antigen-specific egg yolk antibodies, and offers a new antibiotic-free alternative for the treatment and prevention of porcine diarrhea.

  The hazards of antibiotics are severe. In livestock and poultry farming, the overuse of antibiotics can lead to bacterial resistance. On the one hand, this poses significant challenges for the treatment of animal and poultry diseases in the future. On the other hand, when humans consume animal and poultry products, they may inadvertently ingest residual antibiotics that have accumulated in the animals’ bodies, thereby greatly reducing the effectiveness of antibiotic treatments once humans become infected. Therefore, during livestock and poultry farming, antibiotics must be used strictly in accordance with established regulations. As countries and regions such as Japan and the European Union have already implemented comprehensive bans on the use of antibiotics in animal husbandry, China is expected to follow suit and impose a complete ban on antibiotic use in the near future. Consequently, the development and application of antibiotic alternatives have become an urgent challenge that the livestock industry must address.
