Make the most of every egg—turn waste into treasure.
Between the eggshell and the egg white lies a tough membrane—the egg’s second layer of protection. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, after the egg has hatched into a chick, this membrane acquires a beautiful name: “Fenghuang Yi” or “Fenghuang Tui.” It is known for its ability to nourish yin, clear the lungs, promote wound healing, and aid in bone regeneration.
Membrane Extraction: "Phoenix Skin" Protects Joints and Soothes Hangovers
Hubei’s well-known egg enterprise—Shendi Agricultural Science and Trade Co., Ltd., located in Jingshan City—had a remarkable insight when confronted with the mountainous piles of discarded eggshells generated every day: The membrane from hatched chicks is known as “phoenix skin,” so surely membranes from unhatched eggs must have similar remarkable uses.

The former, as a dietary supplement, can be used for joint health; while the beverage made from the latter is reportedly effective in improving metabolism and relieving hangovers while providing an energizing boost.
Shell Expertise: Turning Waste Shells into Fruit and Vegetable Cleaning Powder
Eggshells, previously used only for animal feed, have been transformed by Shendi Company into a natural fruit and vegetable cleaning powder using patented technology. Like similar cleaning products made from oyster shells abroad, this product is entirely natural and environmentally friendly. In 2023, through e-commerce sales channels, the company achieved net profitability for the first time.
