A powerful partnership: Shendi Group and Lijing Bio sign a strategic cooperation agreement to jointly establish a Center for Recombinant Egg Membrane Proteins.

On December 11, 2023, Shendi Group and Shenzhen Liyin Biotechnology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Liyin Bio”) signed an agreement in Shenzhen. Under the agreement, the two parties will jointly establish a Center for Recombinant Eggshell Protein Research, explore the recombinant utilization of eggshell membranes in the field of synthetic biology, promote research into the functions of recombinant eggshell proteins and their wider application, and forge a broad strategic partnership.

　　The signing ceremony was held at the Lisheng Bio Conference Center. Yang Fengfan, General Manager of Shendi Group, and Dr. Zhang Ying, Founder and Chief Scientist of Lisheng Bio, as representatives of their respective sides, signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement. They also provided introductions to their companies’ development profiles and business operations, and engaged in an in-depth exchange on the R&D plans for their collaborative projects.

　　Accompanied by Dr. Zhang Ying, Yang Fengfan and his delegation toured the laboratory at the Lisheng Bio R&D Center. Currently, Lisheng Bio has established five fully integrated technology platforms for protein engineering, which are designed to enhance and streamline every stage of protein design, cell modification, separation and purification, and large-scale production management. These platforms enable the company to produce collagen products with a triple-helix structure while simultaneously ensuring mass-production capacity, manufacturing costs, and product stability.

　　Liying Bio is a cutting-edge, innovative synthetic biology company that leverages the analysis of protein structural data and AI-driven predictions to precisely engineer proteins at the molecular level and in three-dimensional structures using structural biology approaches. By employing a proprietary high-throughput protein purification and screening platform, the company achieves rapid optimization of protein functions, yielding high-performance protein products. She studied under Fellows of the Royal Society, John Skehel and Steve Gamblin, during which time she determined the structures of over a dozen proteins, contributing to the development of precision protein-based drug applications by MNC pharmaceutical companies. As a Category B talent recruited back to China under Shenzhen’s “Peacock Plan” for high-level overseas talents, she has published research on protein structural biology in prestigious journals such as Science and Nature. Other members of the team come from renowned research institutions and industrial companies including Imperial College London, the Institute of Advanced Studies of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, BGI, and WuXi AppTec. They possess a comprehensive technical pipeline for optimizing and designing protein properties at the cutting edge of international science, have mature capabilities in technology translation and expansion into practical applications, and boast extensive experience in cloning, expressing, and purifying multi-subunit heterologous protein complexes in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic systems.
